Project Duration: 1–11 December 2025
Project Overview
Costco Crick required a full upgrade of its existing perimeter and car park lighting to improve efficiency, reliability and light quality across the site. The project involved replacing outdated column-mounted fixtures with modern LED solutions while maintaining safe access and minimal disruption to site operations.
Over a one-week period, a total of 64 lights were successfully upgraded using GALE LED light fittings, delivering a significant improvement in performance and consistency across the warehouse perimeter and staff car park.
Scope of Works
The works included the full decommissioning of the original column fixtures and preparation of existing columns to accommodate the new LED fittings. This covered:
- Removal of existing Holophane column head fixtures
- Preparation of columns for new LED installations
- Renewal of flexible cabling from fuse cut-outs at the base of columns where required
- Sourcing, supplying and installing bespoke bracketry and spigots to suit existing column dimensions
- Installation and wiring of new GALE LED light fittings
- Final testing and verification of correct operation across the entire site
Due to the original column head design, existing brackets could not be reused. Custom-sized bracketry was installed to ensure correct support and alignment of the new fittings.
Access and Site Management
A boom lift was used to safely access high-level column heads throughout the project. Sections of the car park were temporarily cordoned off on a day-by-day basis, ensuring minimal disruption to site operations and vehicle movements throughout the works.

Project Progress
Works were carefully planned and executed to maintain a consistent daily output. On a typical day, the team upgraded low-level twin column heads near the trailer parking area, completed eight single low-level lights on the exit road and replaced two twin column heads, alongside preparation of a high-level car park column for the following day. Twelve lights were upgraded in a single day, demonstrating the efficiency and coordination maintained throughout the project.
Finishes and Equipment
- GALE LED fittings supplied in black finish, with no additional spraying required
- Steel galvanised brackets sprayed to match existing columns and fittings
- Access equipment hired and managed for the full duration of the works

Project Outcome
The completed LED upgrade has delivered improved illumination, reduced maintenance requirements and enhanced energy efficiency across Costco Crick’s perimeter and car park areas. The new GALE LED fittings significantly reduce overall power consumption while providing brighter, more uniform light across the site. Improved light distribution enhances visibility for both pedestrians and vehicle movements, increasing safety throughout the car park, exit roads and perimeter areas, particularly during low-light conditions and poor weather.
The new fittings offer a longer operational lifespan, helping to lower ongoing maintenance and energy costs for the site. All works were completed safely, on schedule and to specification, with full operational testing carried out before handover.
