MD Govier Electrical Engineering Ltd (the “Company”) installs and maintains electrical cabling, enclosures, accessories, appliances, and tests and inspects existing installations. The Company also installs and maintains hot and cold water services, waste pipes, sanitary ware, and plumbing accessories i.e. taps etc. The Company operates from a site in Milton Keynes. We understand that our operations result in emissions to air, water and generate waste materials. It is our aim to comply with legislation to continue to reduce the environmental impacts of our business and operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This policy describes how we will achieve our aim.
This environmental policy applies to all our operations including management, office services, site operations and procurement. Kelly Govier has overall responsibility for ensuring that sufficient resources are made available to enable the business to achieve our environmental objectives and targets and that the policy is implemented.
Kelly Govier has the day-to-day responsibility for ensuring that the requirements of this policy are being followed and for monitoring the effectiveness of the objectives. However, all employees have a responsibility in their area to ensure that the aims and objectives of the policy are met.
During 2025, we will aim to continue to improve environmental performance and minimise pollution created as a direct or indirect result from works carried out. We aim to minimise pollution through sustainable design and construction and thrive to continue developing the Company’s environmental management system. To achieve this, we have implemented an effective stock system and ensure all jobs are accurately scoped to guarantee material usage is minimised.
The Company will aim to ensure that, where practicable, materials purchased will have a recycled content and have a minimal impact on the environment by correct disposal e.g. use of light coffins and commercial battery bins. Furthermore, by recycling as much paper, cardboard, plastic and metal waste generated in the office as possible, we can achieve this more so. From January 2025 we have also implemented a system whereby we can track our Scope 3 figures to monitor our carbon emissions further. We shall begin to target this data moving forwards as part of our preparations to apply for ISO14001 accreditation.
In addition, we use the most efficient travel arrangements by planning journeys and assigning workers who can vehicle share in advance to upcoming projects. We also regularly maintain our fleet vehicles and equipment to ensure their efficiency to help minimise air emissions. We have also installed an electric vehicle charger at our Company’s headquarters, as well as the addition of solar panels to the premises during summer 2024 and have begun to convert our Company fleet to electric vehicles.
We will aim, as a Company, to make efficient use of natural resources by conserving energy where possible. By setting the target of monitoring energy usage and training staff on basic housekeeping we will be able to reduce energy consumption. In addition, wherever possible we will substitute substances that are harmful to the environment with those that have less of an impact.
Progress against these objectives will be monitored through several mediums including annual management reviews of this environmental policy and any associated environmental procedures, monthly management meetings and regular internal audits of environmental procedures. All members of staff will receive training on the environmental responsibilities of their role and will be informed of any updates or revisions via email or team meetings.
As far as possible, the Company will work alongside subcontractors who are equally as committed to reducing their environmental impact.
